New York: Heresies Collective, 1979. 11 x 8-1/2 inches. 128pp + inside covers. Brown wrappers printed in gold. B&w illustrations. Rubbing and creasing to wrappers and joints; price sticker to front wrapper; slight bump to lower corner of front wrapper and beginning few leaves. Very Good. Issue devoted to Third World women, featuring writing and art by the editorial collective – Lula Mae Blocton, Yvonne Flowers, Valerie Harris, Zarina Hashmi, Virginia Jaramillo, Dawn Russell, and Naeemah Shabazz – as well as Marcella Trujillo, Erlene Stetson, Michelle Cliff, Julianne Malveaux, and many others. Notably, includes the first, appearance of “Need,” by Audre Lorde, written to commemorate the murders of 13 Black women in Boston; the poem’s last line, “We cannot live without our lives,” would become the rallying cry of the Combahee River Collective’s protests against the murders. Uncommon in commerce.
