For the first time, two rare commentaries on the Tisha B’Av Kinos—one from an early Chachmei Ashkenaz and the other from an early Chachmei Tzarfas—have been published, based on a range of previously unpublished manuscripts. The Kinos often remain mysterious, with difficult words and concepts only subtly hinted at. Until now, few commentaries have been printed, mostly from the Achronim, leaving readers uncertain which explanations to follow. This unique edition presents commentaries from two Rishonim, clarifying the roots of many challenging words and offering a fresh, authoritative translation and understanding of the Kinos. To aid study, a new running commentary in Hebrew translates the Kinos line by line, directly based on the Rishonim’s insights. This edition also features an elucidated commentary with extensive footnotes, and includes the full Tisha B’Av davening alongside the Kinos. Additionally, this volume includes the first-ever publication of the commentary of Rabbi Yosef ibn Shem Tov on Megillas Eicha, along with extensive footnotes and a comprehensive biographical introduction. Rabbi Yosef ibn Shem Tov was a renowned figure in earlier generations, quoted by luminaries such as Rabbi Meir ibn Gabbay (Avodas HaKodesh), the Abarbanel, and the Shalah HaKadosh. Sadly, much of his work has remained in manuscript—until now. Also included is a Kitzur Hilchos Tisha B’Av based on the psakim of Rav Asher Weiss shlit”a, offering practical halachic guidance for the day. Nusach Ashkenaz, 477 pages. Paperback.
