Archontophoenix cunninghamiana (Seaforthia elegans) is a handsome and stately palm that is sold in single or multi-trunk form. Arching, feathery leaves are green on top and greyish-green underneath; old leaves shed cleanly leaving a smooth grey trunk. The King Palm is highly recommended for nearly frost-free areas and will grow in full sun to part shade in coastal gardens with occasional summer watering. Provide afternoon shade in hotter, arid climates where too much sun can burn the leaf tips. Requires average moist soil with good drainage.
