This striking 1941 poster for Kinagin vermouth blends playful surrealism with high-impact design. Created by Swiss graphic artist Eugène Patkevitch, the piece features a bold, caricatured red face with a protruding nose, gazing humorously into a cocktail glass. The oversized character and exaggerated perspective give it a whimsical, almost toy-like feel, yet it remains sharply executed. Rendered in rich, saturated colors with dramatic lighting and sleek geometry, the poster is a standout example of mid-century Swiss advertising design. The typography is equally commanding - blocky, dimensional lettering in yellow and white anchors the composition with confident clarity. Patkevitch’s signature appears in the upper left as “Ep,” and the bottom margin credits lithographer A. Marsens of Lausanne. Commissioned by Kübler & Cie., a Swiss distiller based in Travers, this poster promoted a fortified aperitif made with quinine and gin, common in pre-war French-speaking Europe. A charming and collectible piece of Art Deco–era beverage advertising, this original lithograph is both a conversation starter and a strong visual anchor for any space.
