Jake is one of our favorite instructors here at BJJ Fanatics, for his depth of knowledge and his ability to break things down to their base concepts and fundamentals. Jake himself is a fierce competitor, as a Brazilian National Champion, Masters World Champion, and a multiple-time world medalist. He wasn’t always the BJJ champion he is today though! Once he was just a skinny, young Canadian kid in Brazil, forced to sink or swim on the mats. Over the years, with an intense focus on using technique to overcome size and strength, Jake has developed into one of the most precise black belts in all of Brazil and is one of the most sought-after instructors in Rio. Jake shows some of his most valuable escaping series, including the kimura escapes that let him unlock those attacks and a 50/50 series that helps him get free from one of the most frustrating positions in grappling. Turn their kimura traps into escapes, reversals, and even kimuras of your own with Jake’s precise techniques. Make an even position like 50/50 back into your own advantage, without ever risking your legs, with Jake’s series of moves for everything you need to get out and passed the guard. Stay in the game with Jake’s three-volume counter series, perfect for anyone sick and tired of being stuck in a bad spot with nowhere to go. Get out, get to a good spot, and even get the tap with these slick and technical counters from anywhere. Get up out of mount, take back your back, and slip out of some of the tightest subs in grappling with Jake’s creativity and coaching expertise. Single Leg From Bottom Side Mount: So What’s On This Series: Start with the worst position to be trapped in, with your back taken and about to get choked. Instead of conceeding defeat or holding on for the end of the round, use Jake’s solutions instead! Work your way out the basic way, or get to the deep half, one of Jake Mackenzie’s signature positions. Even from crucifixes and with your arms totally controlled, you can still have a blueprint for escape right here. With simple rolls and turns, you can wiggle out of even the toughest back controls just like this. From underneath mount and side control, instead of being smash around you can turn the tables and get back to attacking! Escape again to Jake’s comfortable half guard, with sweeps and back takes, and even learn how to stay safe in the classic mounted armbar. Everyone will end up there and you need a good counter ready, so be the toughest guy to tap in the room with this countering masterclass. Stay on the offense from bad spots and learn how to use leverage as your best friend when getting out. From the kimura trap that everyone dreads, you can still get out, get on top, and even grab your own kimura! You just need to know the little details, and Jake shows everything as he leads you through how to approach one of BJJ’s nastiest submission holds. From the 50/50, break open those legs safely and win those close battles every time, by staying one step ahead of everyone with these drags, escapes, passes, and attacks.
