Kalmia latifolia 'Keepsake' This keepsake is a keeper, with unique wine-red flowers, highlighted with white stripes. Cherry-pink flower buds add some more contrast to the already unique flowers of the Mountain Laurels. The mature leaves of this evergreen gain a bluish sheen. Ideal for a small garden or foundation planting, plant in hardiness zones 4 through 8. Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Mountain Laurel as they prefer fall planting with less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Azalea.
