Kedem Malaga

Kedem Malaga is a sweet kosher dessert wine made from Concord grapes in New York State, bottled at 11.50% ABV in a 750ml format. Produced under strict rabbinical supervision by the Herzog family's Kedem Winery, this deep amber wine has become one of the most recognized kosher Malaga-style wines in the United States. Quick Facts: ABV: 11.50%  |  Origin: New York State, USA  |  Style: Sweet Dessert Wine  |  Winery: Kedem (Royal Wine Corp) Production & Heritage Kedem Malaga is produced at the Kedem Winery facility in Marlboro, New York, with bottling at their Bayonne, New Jersey plant. The wine is made from Concord grapes — the classic American varietal long associated with kosher winemaking — and fermented using natural indigenous yeast, then sweetened with cane sugar or grape juice to achieve its signature richness. What distinguishes Kedem from conventional producers is their strict policy requiring that only Sabbath-observant individuals physically handle every stage of production, a practice the Herzog family has maintained throughout the winery's history to ensure the highest level of kosher certification (Mevushal). Tasting Notes Aroma: The nose opens with unmistakable fresh Concord grape character, followed by darker dried fruit tones — raisins and dates — layered beneath a subtle almond nuttiness. There is a warm, inviting sweetness on the bouquet without heavy alcohol burn. Taste: The entry is immediately sweet and luscious, coating the palate with concentrated grape flavor. At mid-palate, raisin and date notes emerge alongside a gentle nuttiness, while the generous mouthfeel stays velvety rather than cloying. The wine's moderate 11.50% ABV keeps the sweetness balanced with just enough liveliness to maintain structure. Finish: The finish is medium in length with a warm, fruity fade of dried grape and soft almond. The texture remains smooth throughout, leaving a pleasant residual sweetness on the palate. How to Drink Kedem Malaga Serve chilled or at cool room temperature in a small dessert wine glass; the lower serving temperature helps balance the wine's sweetness. Kedem Malaga works well in a Sangria, where its bold grape character and sweetness provide a natural fruit-forward base. It can also stand in as a sweet component in a Kalimotxo variation, replacing dry red wine for a richer, dessert-style interpretation. For a simple warm-weather refresher, combine it with sparkling water and citrus for a Malaga Spritzer that tempers the sweetness while retaining its grape-driven personality.
