KAWS: Resting Place, 2012

KAWS Resting Place 2012 | Rare Original | Limited to 500 The KAWS Resting Place, 2012 vinyl figure is one of the most significant and emotionally resonant releases in Brian Donnelly’s career. Produced by Medicom Toy and OriginalFake, this piece represents the one of the final releases of OriginalFake, the seven-year collaborative brand between KAWS and Medicom. Standing approximately 9 inches tall, Resting Place presents the iconic Companion character in a rare state of repose, slumped on its hands in a moment of apparent exhaustion. This figure is a masterwork of KAWS’s "dissected" aesthetic, where one half of the Companion’s smooth exterior is flayed open to reveal a vibrant, cartoon-like anatomy of internal organs and musculature. Many collectors view the weary, introspective pose as a semi-autobiographical reflection of the artist himself, released during a period of intense global fame following his 2012 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon. With a strictly limited edition of just 500 pieces per colorway (Brown, Grey, and Black), Resting Place remains a "grail" for serious collectors, capturing the perfect tension between pop-culture whimsy and existential human vulnerability.
