This smoldering volcanic black glows with smoldering orange, yellow, and deep red, evoking one of the largest of Iceland’s many volcanoes! Katla is located in the southeast of Iceland near the town of Vík (you’ve been here if you’ve gone to the Black Sands Beach!), and has historically been one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, even though it has not had a major eruption since 1918. It is one of the largest volcanic sources of carbon dioxide on earth, accounting for up to 4% of global volcanic CO2 emissions! Scientists think it’s overdue for another eruption, but so far there haven’t been any major signs. The volcano erupting currently in Iceland is on the Reykjanes Peninsula, not too far from the airport and Reykjavik. We do our best to represent yarn colors accurately in the listing photos, but please keep in mind that hand-dyed yarn inherently varies a bit from skein to skein, and different monitors may display colors differently.
