Hand-Forged Japanese Samurai Sword with Crane Artwork and T10 Blade The warm orange-brown lacquered hardwood saya features cranes in flight, accompanied by delicate plant motifs. The light and gold-coloured decorations stand out clearly against the glossy background and give the saya its distinctive appearance. This design also gives the katana its name: Tsurumai (鶴舞) – “Dance of the Cranes”. The tsuka is tightly wrapped in dark brown faux leather with faux rayskin underneath. The sageo is made from Japanese silk and complements the warm tones of the katana. The tsuba, fuchi and kashira are made from zinc alloy. The tsuba is particularly distinctive, featuring a finely detailed Japanese scene that complements the traditional design of the katana. The hand-forged blade is made from T10 carbon steel. It has been traditionally differentially clay hardened, producing a genuine hamon along the cutting edge. A subsequent sand polish provides an even surface and clearly brings out the temper line. The sharpened blade is suitable for cutting practice. A full tang secured within the tsuka by two mekugi provides a solid construction. With T10 carbon steel, genuine differential clay hardening and its distinctively decorated saya, the Tsurumai combines functional construction with a harmonious design centred around the crane motif. “A bird taking flight leaves the water clear behind it.” Features Hand-forged in the traditional Japanese style: Yes Suitable for technique training (Battodo): Yes Suitable for cutting practice (Tameshigiri): Yes Tsuka (handle): Hardwood covered in imitation rayskin Tsuba (handguard): Zinc alloy Fuchi (collar): Zinc alloy Kashira (pommel): Zinc alloy Menuki (handle ornaments): Zinc alloy Ito (handle wrap): Wrapped in artificial leather Saya (scabbard): Hardwood, orange-brown lacquer with hand-applied artwork Sageo (scabbard cord): Wrapped in Japanese silk Overall length: 103 cm / 40.5 in Blade Material: T10 steel Clay-tempered (genuine hamon): Yes Battle-ready: Yes Folded steel: No Full tang: Yes (2 mekugi) Sand-polished: Yes Sharpened with Japanese water stones: No Bo-hi (blood groove): No Blade length: 72 cm / 28.3 in Blade thickness: 7 mm / 0.28 in Blade width: 3.2 cm / 1.26 in Hardness: 55–58 HRC
