Hand-Forged T10 Katana with Brass Fittings The saya is made of hardwood and finished in black lacquer. Under direct light, a fine, subtly shimmering speckled pattern becomes visible across the surface, adding depth to the otherwise deep black finish. The dark blue sageo and matching dark blue handle wrap, both made from Japanese silk, provide a subtle contrast. The tsuba, fuchi and kashira are crafted from brass and play a defining role in the overall appearance of the katana. Both sides of the tsuba feature a finely detailed relief depicting flowering branches and small birds. This harmonious combination of blossoms and birds gives the katana its name: Hanadori (花鳥) – “Blossom and Bird”. Gold-coloured menuki beneath the silk wrapping complement the warm brass tones of the fittings. Beneath the tightly wrapped ito lies genuine rayskin. The tsuka follows a traditional construction, with the full tang secured by two mekugi. Together with the Japanese silk wrapping, this creates a handle that not only has a refined appearance but also provides a secure grip. The hand-forged blade is made from T10 carbon steel and has been traditionally clay tempered. This differential hardening process creates a genuine hamon that runs along the blade in a distinctive wave pattern. A sand-polished finish gives the surface of the blade an even, subtly matte appearance. The blade is sharpened and designed for cutting practice. With its combination of T10 carbon steel, genuine clay tempering, full-tang construction and two mekugi, the Hanadori is not intended solely as a display piece, but is also built for practical use. The dark blue silk, black saya and warm brass fittings give the katana a classic yet distinctive character. “Among blossoms, the cherry. Among men, the warrior.” Features Hand-forged in the traditional Japanese style: Yes Suitable for technique training (Battodo): Yes Suitable for cutting practice (Tameshigiri): Yes Tsuka (handle): Hardwood wrapped in genuine rayskin Tsuba (handguard): Brass Fuchi (collar): Brass Kashira (pommel): Brass Menuki (handle ornaments): Brass Ito (handle wrap): Wrapped in Japanese silk Saya (scabbard): Hardwood, black lacquered, 76 cm / 29.9 in Sageo (scabbard cord): Wrapped in Japanese silk Overall length: 103 cm / 40.5 in Blade Material: T10 steel Clay-tempered (genuine hamon): Yes Battle-ready: Yes Folded steel: No Full tang: Yes (2 mekugi) Sand-polished: Yes Sharpened with Japanese water stones: No Bo-hi (blood groove): No Blade length: 71 cm / 28 in Blade thickness: 7 mm / 0.28 in Blade width: 3.2 cm / 1.26 in Hardness: 55–58 HRC
