Steam cleaning has always had one weakness: it loosens everything beautifully and then leaves it on the floor for somebody with a mop. The Kärcher SGV 8/5 Classic is Kärcher’s answer, and it is the current version of the machine — it replaces the SGV 6/5. Steam and suction are in the same hand gun, so what the heat lifts, the machine takes away. One gun, seven modes, one dial The steam and suction gun is where this machine is won. An EASY dial selects between seven steam and vacuum modes — dry steam for upholstery and equipment, wetter steam for a hard floor, a 158°F hot water rinse for flushing something dried on, vacuum on its own, and combinations of the above. You are not swapping tools or walking back to the machine to change what it does. Where it earns its money Commercial kitchens Grease behind equipment, hood filters, floor drains and tile. 343°F does what a degreaser does, and the suction means nothing runs back into the grout. Healthcare and care homes Hard surfaces, fixtures and equipment exteriors, sanitized with heat rather than a spray in a building full of people who would rather not breathe it. Food production and hospitality Nothing chemical goes near a surface food touches, and there is no rinse step afterward because the machine takes the water with it. The things that make it a professional machine It cleans itself. A built-in self-cleaning cycle flushes the machine through, which is what stops a steam vacuum smelling after a month of real use. A display that tells you the operating state and shows service and error messages, rather than a light that means something you have to look up. Eco!efficiency mode — lower power and noticeably quieter, for working in occupied buildings. Three-stage steam flow control on top of the mode dial, so the same mode can be turned up or down. Removable, refillable tanks — you carry a tank to the sink, not the machine. The SG 4/4 makes steam and you follow it with a cloth — light, quick and a third of the price. The SGV 8/5 steams and sucks the dirty water straight back up through the same gun, so a greasy kitchen floor is finished in one pass instead of two, and the mess ends up in a sealed tank rather than on your mop. If somebody is paid by the hour to do that second pass, the SGV pays for itself. If not, it is a great deal of money for a machine you would use like the cheaper one. Does it really steam and vacuum at the same time? Yes — both are in the one hand gun and both are on the dial. That is the whole reason the SGV range exists and the reason it costs what it does. Is there a detergent tank? No, deliberately. Kärcher build this to clean and sanitize on heat alone, which is exactly why it suits food preparation and healthcare. What happened to the SGV 6/5? Kärcher replaced it with this machine. The 6/5 is the previous generation; the 8/5 Classic runs at higher pressure, heats faster, cleans itself and has the seven-mode dial. How heavy is it to move? 96 lbs with the tools on board, on wheels. It rolls easily on a flat floor and it is a two-person lift into a vehicle. Wheel it to the job rather than carrying it. Can I use it on carpet? It is built for hard surfaces and upholstery. For rooms of carpet you want a spray extractor — the Kärcher Puzzi 30/4 is the machine for that. This is a serious piece of equipment and lead times vary. Call 888-565-6163 before you order and we will confirm availability and go through it with you.
