Hemlata Kantha Coat One of a Kind

Our Hemlata Kantha Coat is a celebration of color, movement, and layered history, a wearable story brought to life through the centuries-old Kantha tradition of Bengal, India. Hand-stitched by women artisans using vintage cotton quilts, Kantha is a practice rooted in care and continuity, where worn textiles are revived through thousands of small, rhythmic stitches. Each piece carries the quiet strength of renewal, preserving family stories, cultural memory, and the artistry passed down through generations of women. One side of Hemlata bursts with joyful intensity: rich crimson reds form the foundation, alive with turquoise florals, deep sapphire blues, and vibrant accents of sunflower yellow and jade green. The patterns feel celebratory and bold, like festival saris drying in the sun or painted temple walls layered over time. Turn the coat inside out and an entirely different world reveals itself, a softer yet equally striking composition where golden yellow panels bloom with oversized floral motifs, balanced by indigo blues, leafy greens, and hints of coral and sky. Two distinct narratives, one reversible coat, each side offering its own mood, energy, and story. This is the magic of Kantha: no two pieces can ever be the same. The Hemlata Kantha Coat is truly one of a kind, never to be recreated. It is designed to be lived in, your ideal travel companion, an effortless layer for long flights, cool evenings, or everyday moments when you want comfort with soul. With generous pockets on both sides, it honors practicality as much as beauty, because these garments were always meant to be useful, worn, and loved. At Pax Philomena, Kantha is deeply personal. Each vintage quilt is carefully chosen by Jean Marie, selected for its color story, balance, and spirit before being transformed into a coat. Hemlata was chosen not only for its bold palette, but for the harmony between its two sides, each reflecting a different expression of joy and craftsmanship. When you wear this coat, you carry forward the hands, histories, and resilience of the women who stitched it, and the intention of preserving a tradition that continues to speak through cloth. This coat is also reversible so you get two in one. One size  Lightweight 100% repurposed Kantha fabric Made in India Machine washable on a gentle cycle with like colours
