Kaleidoscope Abelia Shrub

A Sturdy Garden Plant that Combines Beauty with Versatility Kaleidoscope Abelia (Abelia x grandiflora 'Kaleidoscope') brings a dazzling new twist to solid-color foliage. Glossy variegated leaves are splashed with colors of lemon-yellow and lime-green during the summer months, but the display becomes even more vivid in autumn when shades of ruby-red bring color to an otherwise drab winter garden. A Big Punch in a Small Package Kaleidoscope Abelia keeps its full and rounded shape in a tidy and compact package. Typically, it grows only 3 to 4 feet tall, which makes it a good fit for smaller gardens... or for gardeners who don't enjoy pruning tall shrubs. Nature's Hummingbird and Butterfly Feeder As a member of the honeysuckle plant family, it should come as no surprise that Kaleidoscope Abelia has similarly shaped blooms. Its white flowers, sometimes with a hint of blush pink, are trumpet-shaped to hold the sweet nectar that hummingbirds and butterflies find irresistible. But don't expect to find only a few flowers here and there- Kaleidoscope Abelia is covered in a profusion of blossoms that look like a summer snowstorm. Be sure to plant this shrub where you'll enjoy the antics of tiny hummers and colorful butterflies flitting from flower to flower! Easy Care, Big Rewards • Although it can handle partial shade, plant it in a sunny spot for a colorful show. • Keep watered well for the first year. Once established, it'll be a drought-tolerant gem. • This Abelia is not too fussy about the type of soil, but it grows best if the soil drains well. Shrubs on a Patio? One way you can enjoy Kaleidoscope Abelia's stunning foliage -- not to mention the hummingbird and butterfly display -- is to contain it. This is a perfect shrub to grow in a container, which you can place on your sunny patio or deck. You can even place shrub-filled pots around your patio to form a container hedge!
