Kale Curled Vates Blue Scotch

The premier variety of curled kale, Vates Blue Scotch is a cold-weather favorite known to thrive in partial shade, cool springs, and can even withstand several inches of snow after the hard autumn frost. Although curled kale can withstand freezing gardens, Vates Blue Scotch is still sensitive to heat and will bolt to seed in the summer warmth.  Medium height plant grows vigorously wit mature dark green leaves without a waxy powder. Young leaves have curled, wrinkled edges and densely cluster into small, green flower spherical shapes. It has strong storage properties, is highly cold-hardy, has good heat tolerance, is fertilizer-tolerant, bolts late, and has a long harvest period. It can be cultivated outdoors in spring and autumn, as well as in protected environments during winter. The time from sowing to first harvest is approximately 55 days.
