"Just Above Midtown: Changing Spaces" delves into the legacy of the legendary New York gallery, Just Above Midtown (JAM), which operated from 1974 to 1986. Founded by Linda Goode Bryant, JAM was a cultural laboratory and gallery that emphasized collaboration among Black artists and those of diverse backgrounds. This catalog, published in conjunction with the first museum exhibition dedicated to JAM, features rarely seen material, including artworks, ephemera, and photographs, documenting the gallery's history and impact. With essays providing context and exploring JAM's legacy, a conversation between Linda Goode Bryant and Thelma Golden, an exhibition chronology, and oral history excerpts, the catalog celebrates JAM's contribution to contemporary art and its ongoing influence.
