Lang Jujube Tree

Lang is a classic drying jujube, valued for pear-shaped fruit that develops its richest character after it wrinkles and cures. The medium-to-large fruit begins green, turns reddish brown, and has firm flesh with mild sweetness when fresh. As it dries, the texture becomes soft and chewy while the flavor deepens into the warm, concentrated character associated with Chinese dates. That transformation makes Lang especially useful for long-term storage, baking, tea, soups, and traditional recipes, though partially dried fruit can also be enjoyed as a snack. The tree is durable, productive, and attractive, with fine foliage and late spring flowers that help it avoid some early frost problems. Its tolerance of heat, drought, and varied soils makes it a practical choice for challenging orchard sites. For gardeners interested in preserving and cooking with jujubes, Lang provides a dependable crop designed for exactly that purpose. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil with space for a standard tree. Train a strong framework while young and prune for airflow and harvesting access. Established trees tolerate dry conditions, though steady moisture during fruit development supports crop quality. Lang requires Li or another compatible jujube for reliable pollination. Pairing it with a strong fresh-eating variety also creates a useful orchard combination: crisp fruit for immediate enjoyment and Lang fruit for drying and storage.
