Judith Earrings

“But the Lord Almighty thwarted them, by the hand of a female! Not by youths was their champion struck down, nor did Titans bring him low, nor did tall giants attack him; But Judith, the daughter of Merari, by the beauty of her face brought him down.” - Judith 16:5-6 Judith was a brave, beautiful and faithful Jewish widow who saved Israel from the invading Assyrian Army. She dressed in her finest jewelry and, using her beauty and charm, entered the camp of the Assyrians and killed the general, allowing the Israelite Army to defeat the Assyrians. Her story can be found in the Book of Judith in the Bible. Throughout the story, Judith maintains her virtue and faithfulness to God as an example to all of Israel, who consistently fail to trust in the Lord. Judith also represents God’s deliverance of His people at “the hand of a female”, a prefigurement of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  St. Clement of Rome, a Pope from the first century, said that Judith was an example of courageous love.
