Joseph Plateau - The Pioneer of the Moving Image Flipbook / ISBN 9788412345117 / from Flipboku in Mallorca *** Joseph Plateau (1801-1883) was a Belgian physicist whose research into visual perception laid the foundations for film, television and animated gifs. In 1832, he was one of the first people to demonstrate the illusion of a moving image. To do this, he used counter-rotating disks with repeated images drawn with small increments of movement, using the persistence of vision principle to create an optical illusion of motion, inadvertently ushering in the era of moving images. He called this device the Phenakistiscope. This flipbook features six different stories depending on the position of your thumb. You can also watch a 2-minutes augmented reality movie through your smartphone or tablet about the artists life, his background and his most outstanding work.
