John Coltrane Quartet’s Crescent was released in 1964 on Impulse! Records, arriving between Impressions and A Love Supreme during a pivotal stretch for the classic quartet. Recorded in 1964 with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones, the album reflects Coltrane’s deepening spiritual focus within a post-bop framework. The title track “Crescent” unfolds as a slow, meditative statement, while “Wise One” carries a similar introspective tone through its lyricism. In contrast, “Bessie’s Blues” offers a more direct, blues-rooted performance, and “Lonnie’s Lament” centers Garrison in one of the group’s most extended bass features. This edition is presented on vinyl.
