The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan (Modern Ed.)

The most readable version of The Pilgrim's Progress available. Reading John Bunyan's original can be a challenge even for experienced readers. Not so with this new, easy-to-read version, which translates the archaic language of the seventeenth century into simple conversational English, allowing readers of all ages to navigate the most popular Christian allegory of all time. The story chronicles the epic adventure of a man named Christian, who leaves his home in the City of Destruction and begins a lifelong quest to the Celestial City. Set against the backdrop of a hazardous journey, this powerful drama unfolds as Christian's travels lead him into fascinating lands and encounters with memorable characters who either help or hinder his progress along the narrow way. This edition is fully unabridged. The original, archaic language has been converted into conversational English without losing any faithfulness to Bunyan's text; sentence construction and certain character reactions have simply been modified for a more contemporary style of expression. The book includes Part 1 only, chronicling Christian's own journey (Part 2, which follows his wife and children, is not included), along with the original Bible references. It is suitable for readers age twelve and up, and has long been a favorite of figures such as Charles Spurgeon, C.S. Lewis and George Whitefield. A companion Bible study guide is available separately. This book is featured on The Book Club with Michael Knowles, PragerU's show dedicated to the great books of Western civilization. In this episode, Michael Knowles is joined by Allie Stuckey to discuss how Bunyan's seminal work, written while he was imprisoned for holding religious services, can embolden Christians to endure the hardships and hostility of today. 📺 Watch the episode: Allie Stuckey — The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan Own this modern, easy-to-read edition of Bunyan's timeless allegory, and discover why this 17th-century classic still strengthens believers facing hardship for their faith today.
