Jen-Ken AF 2829 Mega Coil Ceramic Kiln

Introducing - The Jen-Ken Mega Coil Series! The Jen-Ken Mega Coil Kiln Line for pottery and ceramics can do it all! Perfect for a busy production studio or artist, these Mega Coil Kilns are the easiest to operate and maintain. Jen-ken has taken their traditional 3" Brick Kiln and added one super heavy gauge Mega coil to each full brick.  The bigger the coil diameter and the more element material there is to heat the kiln than the longer the coils last. The larger the kiln - the more of these oversized, super heavy gauge, Mega Coils can fit in! The stand-alone controller comes in a wall-mount enclosure which is designed to hang near the kiln and away from the kilns heat that could shorten the lifespan of its internal components. The controller has full cone firing settings with a choice of slow, medium, and fast firings, along with 9 user programs for custom firing schedules, and contains a 60-amp mercury relay for the longest life. An 8-gauge thermocouple is inserted into the kiln to register the temperature during firing.  Desiring to make a kiln that would be easy for the busy studio or artist that does not have time to wait for a repairman to change out a coil - Jen-Ken hit the nail on the head! If needed, with this kiln you can easily change a coil in about 10 minutes all on your own. This 29" deep kiln has 6 oversized super heavy gauge Mega Coils that lead outside the kiln to color-coded wiring that go to a power block then to the power cord. The kiln plugs directly into the Orton AutoFire Digital 12 button controller. A traditional 3” brick kiln that is 22” deep with easy to change oversized heavy gauge Mega coils.  Our Mega Coils extend the firing life of this kiln by 10 to 15 years longer than other similarly sized kilns on the market.  Internal wiring with 8 color-coded element tails. These wire connections easily uncouple for stress-free change out when needed. An Orton controller that has cone fire schedules, as well as being user programmable with a mercury relay.  Accurate temperature display throughout the entire firing so that you always know where the kiln is in the firing schedule. Heat-work adjustments that are automatically calculated and final firing temperatures that are automatically determined by the controller based on the actual kiln performance. This ensures the kiln firing will produce perfect results even as the kiln ages.  Should you need to, it can even calculate the cost of every firing you do. This kiln does it all!   This kiln comes with the following free accessories: Lid lifter Stand Manual Solid State Relay A Solid State Relay is hands down the best investment you can make in your kiln! The relay is what controls the power cycling of the elements in the kiln and they need to be able to withstand a ton of power as they do so. The solid state relays are incredibly efficient compared to the standard mechanical relays and are able to operate at much faster speeds. What this equates to is incredibly tight temperature control for accurate firings, longer element life, and savings on your electrical bill! The standard mechanical relays have moving parts which cause wear and tear over the years and will eventually need to be replaced; however with a solid state relay it's likely to last the entire life of the kiln! You willsave money and time by never needing to worry about this in the future! Controller Selection Jen-Ken has close relationships with the manufacturers of a variety of digital controllers, such as those from SDS Industries and Orton. This means you will have nothing but the best the best in terms of performance and accuracy in your firings. With a selection of multiple controllers available - you can choose exactly what fits your needs. TAP Touchscreen Smart Controller by SDS Industries The top of the line. The bread and butter. The cream of the crop. The controller for those who want to make their lives easier, improve their craft, and make incredible quality products. This is our top selling controller - And for good reason! The TAP Smart Controller is without a doubt the best choice on the market right now - It's easy to use, has stellar performance, and is packed full with features! It has more memory than any other controller, allowing you to more easily utilize, revise, and save many different kinds of firing programs. Storage for firing programs is virtually unlimited! Create as many profiles, with as many steps as you'd like - you won't be limited by this controller. Our favorite part though: When ordered with the Wi-Fi Dongle, you can control everything from any device! Prefer to work on your computer or tablet - how about your phone?     With an internet connection to your TAP Smart Controller, updates from SDS Industries can be applied to your controller automatically - ensuring you always have the most up-to-date software for years to come! Easily adjust the in-progress firing, skip steps, and view all graphical information on your firing with just a "TAP"! The amount of time you save by working with the TAP Smart Controller pays for itself for years to come - you'll be so happy with this investment that you won't know how you managed so long without it. The TAP Smart Controller supports the Loud Alarm option. Orton AutoFire Slide Touchscreen Controller The AutoFire Slide is the latest addition to the AutoFire controller family. It has all the benefits and features of the AutoFire 4000 with a user-friendly touchscreen interface. Using P-I-D control algorithms to tightly control kiln temperature, this controller eliminates temperature cycling. Cycling occurs when the controller turns the kiln on or off in a way where the actual temperature does not closely follow the desired firing schedule, so this ensures your firing schedules are very accurate (Tip: Order your kiln with a solid state relay to close the gap even further!) This controller allows the operator to create, program, and save 35 separate firing schedules with 20 user-defined heating and cooling rates, target temperatures and hold times. For glass crafters, ceramicists, and heat treaters alike - you’ll find maximum flexibility with your firing programs. For you ceramic artists, this controller provides a quick selection of preset cone programs that are designed specifically for ceramic firings.  Every cone-fire program allows the operator to set a preliminary preheat cycle for drying ware, an optional hold time at the final heating temperature for additional heat-work and an optional cooling cycle at the end of the heating cycle. Every cone-fire program also allows the operator to select an optional firing speed that can shorten or lengthen the firing time up to 40% for large or small kiln loads. Orton AutoFire 12-Key (AF/AFG) Controller The Orton AutoFire 3000 12-Key (AF/AFG) controller has 12 keys for programming. The Orton AF 12-key supports up to 4 custom firing programs. Orton controllers use P-I-D control algorithms to tightly control kiln temperature. This eliminates temperature cycling. Cycling occurs when the controller turns the kiln on or off in a way where the actual temperature does not closely follow the desired firing schedule. Orton controllers store all of the program information in memory when shut off. This is helpful for if power is lost in the middle of a firing, the controller remembers how far the program has progressed and determines if it can resume once power has been restored. The AutoFire controller can add hold time to firings already in progress, edit programs in progress, and even skip in progress! These are some of the most useful features that are offered in both the TAP and AF 12-key controllers. Orton Vent Master Downdraft Vent System With all ceramic and glass kilns, we highly recommend that they be vented to the outside. But why? First and foremost - is your safety! When heating various materials in your kiln, many have byproducts that burn off and are released into the air. These byproducts are toxic and you don't want that mixing with the air you're breathing. The Orton Vent Master has a patented process called "Downdraft Venting". By manufacturing the kiln with a hole in the bottom, we're able to attach the vent here and pull the fumes out and vent them outside through a duct or window. This process helps improve the air flow and produce more uniform temperatures throughout the chamber, ensuring that each of your pieces is accurately being heated. The additional oxygen will ensure your colors develop to their truest nature. In addition, with downdraft venting - you'll extend the life of the elements and other metals within our kiln, ensuring your kiln lasts longer and you have reduced repair costs down the road. We often hear from customers that they are confident that by utilizing their venting system their kiln will last much longer than it would have otherwise and that the investment has more than paid for itself. Furniture Kit Furniture Kits are necessary accessories for any kiln owner as firing directly on the kiln floor is not only bad for the kiln, but your pieces as well. In addition to this, they're also useful! A furniture kit will allow you to stack multiple shelves on top of one another in order to maximize the useable space when firing smaller pieces. If you have one that will fit this kiln size already, then you're in luck! But if not, you'll want to ensure you add this to your order as well. Furniture Kit includes: Eight (8) 26" Half Shelf Six (6) 1" Post Six (6) 2" Post Six (6) 4" Post Six (6) 6" Post One (1) 1lb. Shelf Primer Kiln furniture can be special ordered separately, but if done so the cost is ~10-20% higher and will incur a separate shipping charge. It's best to include this on your initial order of the kiln. * Received shelves may contain surface imperfections such as scratches, discoloration or rough edge. These possible imperfections are understood and accepted by the buyer. Stand with caster wheels The standard order of this kiln comes with a stationary stand built to handle the weight, heat, and shape of the kiln. While this works perfectly fine, attempting to move your kiln can be a difficult maneuver and could result in a damaged stand, or worse - a broken kiln! Ordering a stand with caster wheels ensures the whole process of moving your kiln for any reason is a smooth and simple process. No longer worry about if you're running out of room within your garage - you can tuck your kiln away in a corner when it's not in use! And of course - if you're one for moving the kiln around the studio or other rooms, this is essentially a necessity. When ordered with a vent system - make sure to detach first before moving the kiln. Depending on the model, the stand will vary in height. Its primary use is for mobility. Power Interrupt Switch / Automatic Lid Shutoff The power interrupt switch is a useful safety feature which removes power from the heating elements of your kiln once it is opened, and reapplies the power once the lid has been closed. If you believe you'd ever like to open the kiln during firing, the power interrupt switch is a highly recommended addition to your new purchase.
