This is a rich, deeply matured small-batch bourbon that combines elegance and depth—delivering a full, sophisticated profile of old-barrel complexity, mellow oak, and layered spice. For those who value craftsmanship and nuance, it’s a standout. Origins & Craftsmanship Jefferson’s Reserve Very Old Very Small Batch is crafted by Jefferson’s Bourbon in Kentucky as part of their premium Reserve line. This expression is a tightly-blended small batch of mature bourbons—drawn from multiple grain bills and age profiles, married to maximize character and depth. The phrase “Very Old” signals the use of longer-aged stocks, while “Very Small Batch” denotes that only a handful of barrels are selected and blended into each batch for precision and consistency. The spirit is matured in new American white-oak barrels, allowed to age slowly and naturally, then bottled at approximately 45.1 % ABV (90.2 proof) in many runs. Tasting Profile Nose: Aromas of deep caramel, vanilla bean, and warm brown sugar open the glass. Layers of dried orchard fruit—pear or dark cherry—emerge alongside soft notes of toasted oak, mild licorice and just a hint of cinnamon spice. Palate: Smooth and rich in feel, the palate offers toffee-sweetness and creamed corn sweetness, followed by robust oak tannin, dark chocolate, orange peel and a subtle rye-spice whisper. The “very old” portion grants maturity in the form of leather-bound books and dried mint. Finish: Long and warming, finishing with lingering toasted oak, layered grain sweet-corn presence, dark fruit compote and steady, soft peppery spice. It leaves a clean-yet-complex aftertaste that invites another sip.
