And even if figures aren’t your thing … you’ll see that what Jean demonstrates for you can be applied to any other subject and style.  Take a look at this quick preview to see a bit of what Jean has for you in Mixed Media: People. Find Your Own Voice You’ll be surprised at how simplifying a figure by using mixed media techniques will help you discover your own special blend of technical skill and creative expression. This is what will allow your artwork to begin reflecting who you are as a person and as an artist. Imagine yourself tapping into the energy and fun of employing a reference simply as a catalyst for design, bringing in flat shapes and letting go of worrying about the local color, pattern, or value found in traditional methods. Jean shows you how to interpret your subject matter so your artwork is your own and not just a duplication of what you see.  “Abstract” Doesn’t Mean Weird! Somewhere in your art training, you may have been told that “abstract” is a code word for “weird” — and that if you wanted to be taken seriously as an artist, you shouldn’t do anything that could be considered abstract. For her entire career, Jean Pederson has proven this to be FALSE! As you begin to understand the beauty found in mixed media, Jean will help you shift into using the subject only as a catalyst to interpret your imagery … this “Reference Without Rules” method gives you the freedom to have fun and be much less predictable in your paintings. Along the way, you might find a new inner creative that not only surprises you, but also delights your fans and followers! Simpler Ways to See With a formal degree in physical education and years of experience as a professional artist, Jean is just the right instructor to share her keen sense of the human figure. She offers deep insights into how our eyes perceive what we see — and this lets you create art in your own voice and in your own style without ever compromising quality. Jean’s teaching style is friendly and encouraging. She knows the value of intertwining instruction with immediate practical application and, throughout the video, will encourage you to try what she just did so you get a feel for why she does things a certain way. This is how you will build new knowledge and skill — because the WHY helps you make sense of the HOW! Jean openly shares her thought processes and the deeper meaning of her decisions, making it much easier for you to achieve success by seeing the benefit of the WHY and not just repeating the HOW.
