An antique German apothecary Kaliseife ceramic jar. Kaliseife translates to potash soap or soft soap. The piece has two divots or chips that are exactly on opposite sides of each another. We're no sure if these are from manufacturing or post manufacturing. There are a few brown spots from age and use. See photos for condition. There are numbers hand written on the base (1657). The number on the back is "V322". Size: 4 1/8 x 2 3/4". Kaliseife is a potassium based soap used for cleaning or may have had medicinal uses (source: chatgpt). This may have had a lid at one time that is no longer present.
