Mastering Japanese Small Talk - Yellow

This is a great little book that was created with the intention of helping learners who want to have fun conversations in Japanese.  The book covers 60 expressions that are often used in everyday conversation, especially in small talk, which are all organized by category, with 5 expressions in each of the 12 chapters. The plan is for readers to learn these 60 expressions over 12 weeks – 1 expression a day with weekends off. At the end of each chapter, there is a “secret to small talk” section where there is advice for things like phrasing questions in a natural way to suit the situation or asking for specific information that you missed the first time. All the expressions in this book are very natural expressions that you will hear in conversation and not necessarily learn in textbooks. Each new expression has two example dialogues that use the new expression. These dialogues are also very natural spoken Japanese —non-textbook style — and although they may not be in the most easy-to-understand Japanese, they are what you will hear in the real world in conversations, so incredibly useful examples. The dialogues also use some other expressions that you may not be familiar with, so you can pick up lots of natural expressions and reactions with this book.  There are English, Chinese, and Korean translations of all the expressions and example conversations, so you can use this book for self-study and get a great insight into real spoken Japanese. Highly recommended if you want to be able to speak natural Japanese with natives. Also, look out for Mastering Japanese Small Talk – Blue, coming soon.
