Virginia's Last Old Christmas Eve by Kari Kilgore Love Lives Forever in Our Memories Virginia lived a long, joyful life. Full of family and friends, love and laughter. She delights in keeping old tales and traditions alive for each new generation. But her most cherished story remains untold, with time growing short. Gather around the holiday fire for an unforgettable journey into the past. Originally appeared in WMG Publishing's Holiday Spectacular: Winter Holidays Also available in the collection Uncommon Holidays: A Different Side of the Season An excerpt from Virginia's Last Old Christmas Eve A Long-Lost Love of a Wonderful Lifetime A woman Victoria recognized more than the wrinkled, aged one she saw in the mirror every day gazed out from the largest picture. Dark hair in perfect waves not quite to her chin, with a straight-sided cap pulled down to just over her raised left eyebrow. The creased top of the cap followed that jaunty angle away from her face. Smooth, firm skin, clear eyes. And a subtle smirk that matched her eyebrow perfectly. More times than not lately, Virginia felt more like that proud, vaguely terrified girl in her late twenties than an old woman who'd just turned a hundred and one. Surrounding her Women's Army Corps graduation photo were a dozen smaller ones from the same era. And in almost all of them, one woman drew Virginia's eye every bit as she had during that long-ago time. Neither her vibrant red hair or her sea green eyes showed in those old photos. They'd never faded in Virginia's mind. Humble Moments: A Sarah Holt Mystery by Jason A. Adams Justice in the Old West sometimes falls like a hammer. Sometimes, justice burns as long as a slow fuse. In either case, justice must be served. Join the Doctor, the Marshall, and the inestimable Sarah Holt on the trail of a killer. Will Sarah’s keen eyes and quick mind unravel the clues in time? An excerpt from Humble Moments: “Still don’t see what the fuss is,” Sarah said, seeming to lose interest as she handed the snuff box back to her brother and cast her gaze toward her laudanum glass. “The fuss, Sis, is that a man’s layin’ on a board up in Folsom with half his guts blowed out his back, and that there box is all the clues I got to go on.” Sarah rolled her eyes in that manner she and her brother both had. “And I reckon you want me to haul myself up there and do your job for you. Again.” “Only if you ain’t busy, Sis,” he said, smiling and winking at me. The Lightning-Struck Wood by Kari Kilgore When You Can't Imagine Saying Goodbye Paul's best friend Sadie lived a life worth celebrating. Bringing safety and comfort to troubled souls. Now Paul faces carrying on her work without her. Wishing to talk to her one more time. Paul never suspects Sadie left a secret just for him. A secret that changes his life forever. Also available in Kari's collection Stepping Out of Reality: Short Spells of Appalachian Magic  An excerpt from The Lightning-Struck Wood: Gayle worked her way around to Paul and squeezed tight enough that his spine crackled. He relaxed into her warmth and strength and soothing lavender fragrance. Almost like one final, much-needed hug from Sadie. "I know you've lived up here for a long damn time," Gayle said, "and I still say I don't like you spending tonight alone. One of us can stay, or better yet, you grab your toothbrush and go on a little vacation with us. The gods know you've earned it." Paul shook his head before she let go, and her rueful smile let him know she wasn't surprised. "I appreciate the thought and the invitation, I really do. But this is one of those saying goodbye things, you know? Gotta take my chance to visit with Sadie's spirit while I can." Soul Deep: A Soul Travelers Romance by Kari Kilgore Everything changes. Years of dating leave Branwen underwhelmed. Considering not bothering with the whole routine. Until she meets John. Bad experiences leave John bruised and cautious. Determined to wait until later to try again. Much later. Branwen shatters his resolve. Now they stand together on the edge of something more. One special night promises to change their lives forever. An excerpt from Soul Deep: A connection beyond heart-deep On an unusually impulsive thought, John picked up the sleek black phone in the kitchen. The lovely man he’d talked to about the Burns Night Supper had not only saved John when he was certain there wouldn’t be seats for him and Branwen. Mr. Sutherland had insisted they’d gladly make room for a young man so recently arrived straight from Glasgow. He’d also insisted John should call if he needed anything. Anything at all. Something about Branwen and the way she calmed every part of John without even trying—made him feel like the pieces all fit— left him more than willing to ask for help. He wasn’t about to let their first proper date, a belated birthday dinner for her, and her first Burns Night Supper pass without doing everything he could to make it memorable.
