Jackpot Pear™

JACKPOT PEAR™ Jackpot Pear™ is a very productive tree that produces a medium to large bell shaped pear. This pear is sweet, has a buttery texture and produces an abundant amount of fruit annually. The main drop of fruit begins late September continuing through the month of October here in Pennsylvania. The original tree resides in Northwestern Pennsylvania in plant hardiness zone 5a. This tree has experienced lows of -24 degrees making it suitable for planting in Plant Hardiness zone 4b and down into zone 7. Jackpot Pear™ is located in among several thousand wild apple trees, while visiting the area on October 16th. even with many apples on the ground the deer were keeping the pears cleaned up from under this tree. The name came to my mind the second I bit into this pear. Jackpot pear™  has an explosion of taste! This sweet buttery pear has a texture and flavor above that of kieffer pear with a similar drop time as kieffer. This is a tree I wanted to take home, a tree I wanted to add to all of my properties. The attraction from the deer was evident and I understood why the second I tasted it. Hardiness zones 4b – 7. Mature height of 20’+. The Jackpot Pear™ is made by using plant tissue from the original tree and attaching it to the new roots. This is essentially giving you an identical tree of the one you see in the picture and description. TREE SIZE FOR JACKPOT PEAR™ 2-yr 4-6′ (5/8”-3/4” dia.) Free local pick-up is available in the surrounding states of Pennsylvania. STANDARD ROOTSTOCK Jackpot Pear™ is grafted to Pyrus Betulifolia. This vigorous, standard-sized seedling rootstock will reach a mature height of 20′-30′. Therefore, it will produce more fruit on the tree and take up less real estate. This root is adaptable to acidic soils, poor soil conditions, sandy soils, and soil with low fertility. As a result, it will be suitable for more marginal areas that were wooded and are now food plots, reclaimed land, shale mountain soil, dryer uplands, and sandy soils. With that said, this rootstock will perform exceptionally well when planted in appropriate pH and nutrient-rich soils! You should perform a soil test and make the correct amendments to your soil for optimal growth and fruit production, as low fertility will cause a delay in fruit production. The roots will anchor well, producing a solid and drought-tolerant tree because of the deep “real roots”. We are only grafting onto the most vigorous standard rootstock. This rootstock is suitable for plant zones 4b – 8. PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR JACKPOT PEAR™ Plant at least 2 different pear cultivars within close proximity to each other to ensure pollination. The varieties of grafted pears we have for sale will blossom and overlap each other giving you excellent pollination. The Danville Kieffer pear tree is an excellent pollinator for both Asian and European varieties of pears. Plant all pear trees in moist, well drained soil with a soil ph between 5.5 – 7.2 with adequate nutrient levels for optimal growth. The above soil conditions will provide the most growth and fruit production. Pears are one fruit tree which will also tolerate acidic soils with poor fertility. A fruit tree requires at least 6 hours of sunlight for fruit production and growth. Space trees 20′ apart and use cages of at least 5’ to protect your trees. This will ensure your deer eat your fruit in a few years and not your trees this year.
