It's Not About Me, It's About You

David LaChapelle - It's Not About Me, It's About You David LaChapelle's work, It's Not About Me, It's About You is a pigment print on Dibond made in a limited edition of 7 copies and 3 artist's proofs. This work features the famous heiress Paris Hilton wrapped in a skimpy pink dress. Her figure by pose is reminiscent of that of Barbie, but the artist's rendering of the protagonist is that of a cardboard cutout.  If one looks closely, Hilton's silhouettes are defined and sharp, just like the posters outside movie theaters. Paris, moreover, looks at the viewer through her beauty mirror, in a game of cross-references that engages whoever is admiring the work.  Behind her is a man with a gaze toward the horizon, intent on scanning the arrival of a streetcar. Sitting on a platform, the man waits for the public transportation by destination he ignores, surrounded by suitcases while carrying the cardboard figure of Paris. Inserting himself masterfully between the dreamlike and hyperrealist dimensions, LaChapelle makes a subtle social critique. The scene comes across as surreal to the viewer, dominated by bright and vivid hues, emphasizing the critical trend of modern society in which what matters is the showiness of gestures and what is in fashion at the moment. The work It's Not About Me, It's About You was made between 2007 and 2017, and measures 24x18.8 in.  DAVID LACHAPELLE IT'S NOT ABOUT ME, IT'S ABOUT YOU FOR SALE ON DEODATO.US If you are interested in the work by David LaChapelle It's Not About Me, It's About You for sale you are in the right place.
