ISM PN 1.1 Saddle

The ISM PN 1.1 Saddle raises the comfort ante when compared to its Performance Narrow family member, the PN 1.0. It’ll be a great choice if you want the narrow saddle, but want to have a slightly softer ride. ISM designed this saddle with road racers in mind, but that hasn’t prevented riders from disciplines as varied as triathlons and cyclocross loving it for their purposes too. Anyone who doesn’t like to have saddles that are too wide, or has narrow sit bones will be really happy with the PN 1.1. The padding has two layers: one bottom layer of foam and then a top layer of gel. The 40-series rating this saddle received indicates that it is among the more plush cushioned perches in the ISM line-up. You can count on feeling comfortable even if you are wearing tri shorts with limited padding. But if you are using this saddle for your hard training and race days, you’ll most likely be rotated forward onto your pubic rami bones, which will save you any discomfort around your soft tissue due to the nose-less, forked design. Depending on how aggressive your position, either your sit bones or ischial tuberosities when sitting more upright, or your pubic rami bones when you have your hips rotated forward, will be supporting you. In spite of how long it is, this is still a classic ISM nose-less design. It will prevent you from suffering any pressure on your perineum, which can cause numbness in the genital region and just be a complete ride-ruiner. Before you head out on your first century with this saddle, though you should be very careful about having it properly adjusted. You can’t simply position it the same way you would your conventional saddle. ISM says that you should have between two and three inches of saddle behind you when you are in position. The steel rails with a satin finish will offer you quite a lot of wiggle room when adjusting just where you feel more comfortable with it. Increase the distances you can ride, and the speed at which you can ride them by ensuring your comfort on your seat with the ISM PN 1.1 Saddle. At 380 grams, it is a touch heavier than conventional race saddles, but you won’t begrudge it one gram once you realize just how comfortable you can be on a bike.
