Irish Brown Lime Mortar

Irish Brown Lime Mortar is a premium non-hydraulic lime mortar, expertly formulated for bedding and re-pointing historic and modern masonry. Premixed with our signature lime putty, carefully graded sharp silica sand, and natural pigments, this ready-to-use mortar requires no additional materials—just open the bucket and go. As a true carbonating lime mortar, it sets naturally by absorbing carbon dioxide from the air, creating a breathable, flexible bond that works in harmony with traditional masonry. Why Masons Love It: Perfect Sand Blend — A precisely graded mix of interlocking, sharp silica sand delivers maximum strength and workability. Outstanding Plasticity — Exceptionally sticky and easy to handle; up to 1½” of mortar will cling to your slicker without slumping. Ideal Lime Ratio — Just the right amount of 98% pure calcium lime putty fills every void in the sand for a dense, cohesive mix. Low Shrinkage — Minimizes cracking for a clean, long-lasting finish. Smart Water Management — Sheds water with the correct joint finish while staying highly permeable and vapor-open. Self-Repairing & Flexible — Naturally heals hairline cracks and flexes with normal building movement, preventing stress fractures. Unlimited Shelf Life — Stays fresh and workable indefinitely in the sealed bucket. Freeze/Thaw Stable — The cured mortar handles freeze/thaw cycles beautifully (note: if a full bucket freezes solid, the container may crack). Packaging & Coverage Each 5-gallon bucket weighs approximately 85 lbs and covers about 65 ft² when re-pointing with a 3/8″ wide joint at 3/4″ depth. Ready to use, built to last, and trusted by restoration professionals—Irish Brown Lime Mortar is the effortless choice for beautiful, durable masonry work. We recommend using our beater attachment to “knock up” (mix rigorously) for minutes before using. This energizes the calcium in the mortar. Remove the water on the top and save. Put that water back on the top of the mortar if it is not used. To avoid failure, do not re-point in temperatures below 40°F.  For areas of high exposure such as chimneys and foundations: Add Pozzolan. Pozzolan is a type of clay that makes Lime Putty Mortars more durable and robust in extreme environments. Click here to read more about Pozzolan! A note about color: A sliced joint verses a weathered joint may appear to be two different colors even though they are the same color. Shadowing, joint recession, and finishing techniques etc. will affect color perception. All ingredients sourced and made in the USA! Pallets are available. A full pallet consists of 24 buckets and weighs 2,200 pounds.  Please read and follow all safety warnings and installation instructions!
