Irenaeus

Irenaeus: Protector of the Apostles’ Teaching Long ago, when the early church was growing, many false ideas began to spread. Irenaeus stepped forward to protect the truth Christians had received from the apostles. He reminded believers to listen to Scripture and to measure every teaching against God’s Word. In this beautifully illustrated and simply told story, young readers will glimpse the challenges the early church faced. They’ll see how Irenaeus helped Christians tell truth from error and encouraged them to stand firm in what the Bible teaches. The lessons he shared are just as important today as they were in his time, and will help children to understand why it is so important that believers stay rooted in the faith passed down through the generations. Endorsements “Writing church history in a way that appeals to children is not at all easy, but Simonetta Carr has done it time and again with these gorgeous books on various figures from the glorious company of believers who have gone before us. And this new one on Irenaeus is no exception. We know his thought well because of his literary works, but much of his life is in the shadows. Simonetta handles this adroitly, however, and the result is an excellent presentation for children of a key figure in the history of God’s people. Well done, Simonetta!” —Michael A. G. Haykin, professor of church history and biblical spirituality, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary “I love Simonetta Carr’s books. I know of no other volumes on Christian history that are so wonderfully accessible and beautifully illustrated. Now Simonetta brings to us the story of the second-century pastor and defender of orthodoxy Irenaeus of Lyon. The author skillfully weaves together historical facts and biblical meditations to produce a compelling account. I lament that my children are now too old to place on my lap so that I might read to them this excellent book about a most excellent man.” —Todd Pruitt, pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Harrisonburg, Virginia, and cohost of Mortification of Spin About the Author Simonetta Car was born in Italy and has lived and worked in different cultures.
