Inspired - Edvard Munch - The Scream

Edvard Munch’s The Scream is one of the most instantly recognizable images in art history. Painted in 1893, it captures a moment of anxiety against a surreal, swirling sky. Multiple versions exist, but the most famous hangs in the National Gallery of Norway. Munch described the inspiration after a walk at sunset, when the sky suddenly turned blood red and he felt “a great, infinite scream pass through nature.” The backdrop, a real view from a hill in Oslo, takes on an otherworldly quality through Munch’s use of color and distortion. Each tube in the Inspired series doubles as a vibrant display, packed with Plus-Plus pieces in colors drawn from iconic artworks— in this case, bold reds, deep blues, and muted grays of Munch’s The Scream.
