Inklings Math Program

Curriculum Guide (Version 0.5) Inklings Math Program (IMP) is a comprehensive K–3 curriculum that equips teachers to fully implement the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics in a manner that is rigorous, coherent, engaging, and accessible to all learners. The curriculum focuses on developing students’ deep understandings of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills, and ability to solve complex problems. IMP blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration. It taps into the intelligence and strengths of all students by presenting material that is as linguistically, visually, and kinesthetically rich as it is mathematically powerful. IMP provides children with a wide range of knowledge, skills and related activities that help them to develop an understanding of the physical world and social interactions. It gives the child a language and a system through which he/she may analyze, describe and explain a wide range of experiences, make predictions, and solve problems. Our Aim We aim to foster creative and aesthetic development and enhance the growth of reasoning through the use of investigative techniques in a mathematical context. We are also concerned with encouraging the child to be confident and to communicate effectively through the medium of mathematics. Our Goal Our goal is to help children make sense of math by exploring, discussing, and demonstrating their understanding of key concepts. In busy, active lessons, students learn how to look deeper and choose their own path to the answers, skills that will take them far beyond the math classroom. Our goal is to provide students with the opportunity to achieve their best academically, emotionally, and socially through a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum. IMP curriculum communicates the content and expectations of student performance in the form of attainment targets. Schools may choose how they organize their school curriculum to achieve the attainment targets for each level.
