Umpqua Improved Sparkle Dun

The Umpqua Improved Sparkle Dun is a highly effective dry fly and emerger pattern, designed by Craig Mathews, specifically created to imitate the mayfly as it emerges from its nymphal shuck. The "improved" version features a small addition of Z-Lon to the deer hair wing, significantly enhancing its visibility on the water and making it a more buoyant, durable choice for selective trout. This fly is a staple for matching major mayfly hatches, such as Blue Wing Olives (BWO) and Pale Morning Duns (PMD), and should be fished dead-drift in the surface film to mimic a struggling insect.
