Imperium Mortem - Ornament

'Imperium Mortem' is a direct nod to the "memento mori" tradition; the skull signifies the inevitability of death, while the laurel wreath—or Caesar’s crown—symbolizes the ultimate emptiness of worldly power, wealth, and earthly triumphs. 'Imperium Mortem' is part of a new and ongoing body of work, ‘Mors Imperii’. The images in this series explore the intersection of our loss of autonomy, the rise of authoritarianism, and the shared transformation of ritual mourning. This ornament features a hand-selected print and has a ring and ribbon for easy hanging. Prints are protected by a layer of resin, saturating color and highlighting detail.
