I'm Not a Cynic, But Sometimes [Things], by Chris Sumberg

Prose poetry, chapbook, 28 pages, from Bottlecap Features. I’m Not a Cynic, But Sometimes encompasses 16 miniature prose poem/nonfiction/fiction hybrids, termed things by the author. These determinedly logorrheic pieces deconstruct everything from the content of supermarket grocery carts, to the philosophical underpinnings of cliché bumper stickers, to the unnecessary personas we adopt in public – and when completely alone. As the title suggests, I’m Not a Cynic, But Sometimes is occasionally dark, but it is just as frequently the opposite. The many “things” here find, ultimately, plenty of hope in simply appreciating the world and ourselves as it and we truly are. Chris Sumberg’s writing has been published in Local News (MWPH Books), The Museum of Americana, The Partially Examined Life, OrionOnline (Orion Magazine), The Temz Review, Stanchion, Exacting Clam (Sagging Meniscus), Chapter 16, Happy Hour (AHOY Comics), Further Tales from the Cubicle (Blue Cubicle), Broad Street Review, The Guardian, and other magazines and anthologies. His novella/ mock writing guide hybrid, 500k/MO!! as EPIC-POET!, was published in 2022.
