Iconic Nordic House

This lavishly illustrated book explores the great exemplars of Nordic residential architecture from the past 120 years, featuring groundbreaking modernist homes and contemporary dream residences. The Nordic region is one of the most influential when it comes to the modern home. Nordic architects and designers such as Alvar Aalto, Arne Jacobsen, and Jørn Utzon played a key part in the development of Nordic modernism, with its unique sense of character and warmth. This collection of forty of the region’s most iconic houses shows why the Nordic home holds a powerful allure for architects, designers, and homeowners around the world. Contemporary architects and designers across the Nordic region continue to build upon the unique legacy of its star architects. As one of the most vibrant arenas for innovation, the region is known for sustainable twenty-first century homes, with architects such as Sami Rintala, Lund Hagem, Snorre Stinessen, and many others creating fresh residences that make the most of enticing natural settings while touching the earth as lightly as possible. These designers are at the forefront of the push toward sustainable living without compromising creativity. With specially commissioned photography throughout, the featured houses range widely across the region’s diverse landscapes, from remote mountain residences to dramatic waterside homes, and urban icons. Unique houses from Iceland and the Faroe Islands sit alongside examples across Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland.
