iBasso DX270 Digital Audio Player

The newly-designed iBasso DX270 digital audio player brings a next-generation discrete R2R platform to portable audio, combining precision conversion with a flexible Android + Mango OS playback experience... Discrete R2R Ultra DAC architecture (20-bit R2R + 4-bit String DAC) designed for high linearity and natural timbre 8-channel, fully differential R2R design for ultra-low distortion and a “black background” FPGA-Master 3.0 with real-time hardware calibration, NOS mode, and selectable digital filters Android 13 with system-level non-SRC playback plus dedicated Mango OS for focused audio performance High-power balanced and single-ended outputs with strong drive capability for a wide range of headphones and IEMs R2R Ultra Architecture The Ultimate Evolution of R2R Decoding The DX270 is a ground-up reconstruction of iBasso’s portable R2R approach. It uses a hybrid 20-bit R2R + 4-bit String DAC architecture with an 8-channel, fully differential discrete R2R design, FPGA-Master 3.0 algorithms, and a hardware resistor compensation network. The result is very high linearity with low distortion and a low noise floor. 8-Channel, Fully Differential R2R The DX270 features a fully balanced 8-channel R2R architecture, using dual R2R DACs per channel to help reduce zero-crossing artifacts and maintain smooth signal transitions. This differential design improves stability at low signal levels and supports an excellent measured dynamic range (see specifications below). A Leading Technology for Superior Sound Quality The DX270 uses a hybrid 20-bit R2R plus 4-bit String DAC architecture, with a String DAC handling high-bit processing for wide dynamic range, low distortion, and low spurious noise. By employing 344 high-precision resistors—nearly double that of standard R2R designs—iBasso aims for a more delicate, natural, and clean presentation. Hardware Resistor Compensation Network Combined with FPGA algorithms and a hardware resistor compensation network, decoding accuracy is improved, dynamic range is expanded, and distortion is reduced. This “software + hardware” approach targets an equivalent resistance accuracy of 1.4 parts per 100,000. Solving Zero-Crossing Distortion Near-zero signal behavior is a common challenge in discrete R2R designs. The DX270 uses a fully differential architecture and calibration to target ultra-low zero-crossing distortion, helping preserve subtle harmonics and vocal nuances. Outstanding Linearity When a DAC’s output curve departs from ideal linearity, harmonic and intermodulation distortion can increase. With tight resistor matching, precise switching, and an optimized circuit architecture, the DX270 is designed for very high linearity and a low noise floor with natural tonal balance. Digital Platform & Playback FPGA-Master 3.0 The DX270 is powered by FPGA-Master 3.0, featuring 7.5× more logic than the previous generation and dual femtosecond Accusilicon clocks for precise, low-noise control. Acting as both audio controller and real-time hardware calibration master, it compensates for component errors to optimize THD+N and dynamic range while supporting NOS mode and selectable digital filters. Non-SRC Android 13 + Mango OS The DX270 runs Android 13 with system-level SRC bypass, allowing supported apps to operate at their native resolution. It also includes Mango OS, a Linux-based audio playback system designed for lower SoC load and reduced EMI by minimizing background system activity.
