How Trauma Affects The Brain Poster

Trauma refers to deeply distressing or disturbing experiences that can have significant neurobiological effects on the brain, especially in children. According to the American Psychological Association, more than two-thirds of children experience a traumatic event by the age of 16 — and for those who do, changes in their brain structure and function may occur. The How Trauma Affects The Brain Poster highlights three key brain regions, their key functions, and how these functions can be impacted by trauma. For example, the poster explains how the prefrontal cortex may have a difficult time thinking rationally after a traumatic event. Educating young people about their brain’s response to trauma may encourage them to take steps toward healing. Adults can enhance young people's understanding by breaking down complex concepts into simpler terms and engaging kids and teens in storytelling sessions to demonstrate how trauma affects their emotions and behaviors. This psychoeducational poster pairs nicely with our Trauma Infographics Handouts For Kids And Teens. *This item is an instant digital download.
