Hosta 'Praying Hands' is a unique and award-winning cultivar that brings vertical elegance and striking texture to shade gardens. Unlike most hostas with broad, spreading foliage, 'Praying Hands' features narrow, upright leaves that are tightly folded and curve inward—resembling hands held in prayer. The dark green leaves are glossy and highlighted by thin, chartreuse-gold margins, creating a dramatic and sculptural appearance. Its compact form and architectural shape make it an excellent choice for containers, borders, or as a statement piece in hosta collections. Key Features: Foliage: Narrow, folded dark green leaves with fine golden-yellow edges and a shiny finish. The leaves curl upward, giving the appearance of praying hands. Mature Size: Reaches 18 to 24 inches in height and 12 to 18 inches in width. Forms an upright, vase-like clump. Flowers: Pale lavender, trumpet-shaped flowers bloom in late summer on slender, arching scapes. Light Requirements: Performs best in part to full shade. Can tolerate some morning sun, but protection from harsh afternoon light is ideal. Soil: Prefers moist, rich, well-draining soil. Consistent watering helps maintain leaf quality. Hardiness: Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 3 to 9. Maintenance: Low-maintenance and relatively slug-resistant. Rarely needs dividing. Uses: Ideal for shade gardens, narrow spaces, containers, and as a vertical accent in hosta groupings. Awards: Named Hosta of the Year in 2011 by the American Hosta Growers Association.
