Honeygold Apple Tree

Sweet, High-Quality Apples, Ideal for Cool Climates Delicious taste and hardy adaptability merge, making the Honeygold Apple Tree a must-have. This tough apple tree sails through sub-zero winters, and it boasts flavor that's sweeter than Golden Delicious. So, Honeygold is the hands-down choice for growing in cold climates and beyond. Plant a Honeygold Apple tree, and you'll have a treasure-trove of benefits that keep coming all season long, starting with the springtime flowers and ending with the fall harvest. Plus, because the Honeygold is specifically adapted for cold climates, it still bears superior-tasting apples in chilly weather. Even better? The apples are large, crisp, juicy, and flavorful. They're also uncommon in grocery stores, so you'll have to grow your own to discover this well-kept secret. Imagine walking outside and picking a snack fresh, or harvesting for applesauce, cobblers, and pies. Though you'll need at least one other apple variety to pollinate the Honeygold (we recommend the Honeycrisp, McIntosh, or Granny Smith), the entire process couldn't be simpler. Especially since we're planted, grown and shipped our Honeygolds with care - they're specifically bred and meticulously monitored at our nursery to be a proven performer in your landscape. Planting: For best results, find a location with well-drained soil and full sun - about 6 hours of sunlight per day. Once you've selected a location, dig a hole that's twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Then, place your tree, back fill and tamp down the soil, and water to settle the soil. Finally, mulch to retain moisture. *Tip: Make sure your mulch is not touching the base of the trunk. 2. Watering: Your apple will benefit from a regular watering each week, though you may have to water more during times of drought. If you're not sure when to water, simply check the soil down to a depth of about 2 or 3 inches - if it's dry here, it's time to water. 3. Pruning: Once your tree has become established and is starting to bear fruit, it will need some periodic, moderate pruning. Only prune the tree during times of dormancy, making sure to remove any vigorous, upright stems and weak, damaged or dead branches.
