Home and Away

Mawil is a four-time winner of the ICOM, the prize for best independent graphic novel in Germany. His very funny, largely autobiographical comics have made him one of Germany's most popular cartoonists. From the publisher: In this collection of short stories Mawil takes us through his early years growing up in East Berlin and the changes that have occurred since the Wall came down. See him fight video-game addiction and strive to improve his first car, a much loved but clunky Skoda. Watch as he discovers what the life of a graffiti artist is like when you fail to keep one step ahead of the law. In the longest strip, 'Welcome Home', see Mawil and his new found friends head out on a summer holiday with more than a passing eye for Hippy chicks and their daily naked Yoga routines. Packed with Mawil's amazing art and always sweet and funny, this is the first time any of Mawil's colour work has appeared in English.
