Standard home and fire safes are designed to protect paper documents, which char at around 350°F. However, digital media such as hard drives, SSDs, USB drives, CDs, and magnetic tapes break down and lose data at temperatures as low as 125°F to 135°F. The HDS-1000E Data Safe is engineered with advanced thermal insulation specifically designed to keep the internal chamber below 125°F during an intense 1850°F fire, making it an essential security solution for businesses, IT professionals, home offices, and collectors who store critical electronic data. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Q: How is a data safe different from a regular document safe? A: Standard paper fire safes allow interior temperatures to reach up to 350°F. While paper can survive this temperature, digital media (hard drives, flash memory, tapes) degrades at temperatures above 125°F. The HDS-1000E keeps internal temperatures below 125°F to guarantee protection for sensitive electronic storage devices. Q: Is the HDS-1000E safe waterproof? A: Yes, the HDS-1000E is constructed to seal tightly against moisture, high humidity, and water spray caused by fire sprinklers or hoses during a fire emergency. Q: Can I bolt the HDS-1000E safe to the floor? A: No, this model intentionally features no center bolt-down hole. Omitting bottom anchor holes prevents heat and water from penetrating the cabinet during a fire, ensuring maximum thermal insulation for sensitive digital media. Its 535 lbs solid weight acts as a formidable anti-theft deterrent on its own. Q: What kind of lock does the HDS-1000E use? A: It features a commercial-grade Sargent & Greenleaf (S&G) UL Listed, Type 1 Electronic Lock, offering high-security keyless entry with custom security code combinations. Q: Are the internal shelves adjustable? A: Yes, the safe comes with two removable shelves, allowing you to configure the interior layout to accommodate taller drive enclosures, tape boxes, or document binders.
