His Kingdom

A bull moose surveys a land overflowing with wildflowers during a sunset storm in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. I have visited this exact spot for many years, knowing for a long time that this is where I want my ashes scattered someday. I've seen butterflies on lupines, heard elk talking after dark, watched deer emerge from small patches of timber before dawn, and once found an ammonite fossil -- proof that this ocean of blossoms was once a literal sea. Scenes like this one leave me wondering if I should return or, like certain places from my childhood, let the memory stand as perfect.  This is an incredibly colorful panorama-style image shot with a high-resolution medium format camera for sharp detail and smooth tones.
