Higurashi Scissors

Floral Scissors from the flower fields of Fukuoka. These traditional drop-forged scissors for the garden and home are perfect for ikebana, cut flowers, dead-heading, a bit of bonsai, and light pruning. The hard-wearing carbon steel holds its edge and sharpens up well. Materials: S55C carbon steel Made by: Niwaki Made in: Sanjo, Japan Specifications:  7.25" x 4" max cut  Ø5mm Use:  Hold with your index finger outside the handle for flexible, comfy use. Use the base of the blades for woody cuts. Care:  All steel blades will, through regular use, stain (and eventually rust) and gradually lose their edge. You can keep your scissors working properly by remembering the following:  Japanese steel is hard and sharp, and can be more brittle than some people are used to - it will chip if abused Do not cut wire, metal, stone, plastic or any other hard material (even bamboo fibres and some very hard woods, especially knots and burrs, can damage steel edges) Do not twist or apply uneven pressure Cut diagonally across branches (not straight across) so you cut along the fibres Pay attention to our maximum cut dimensions, and don’t overdo it (shears are not loppers) Use the base of the blades, not the tips, for heavier cuts Wipe clean with a dry rag after each use Sharpen regularly Further Reading: Niwaki (knee-whacky) means garden tree. In Japan, gardens are both landscapes and microcosms of nature. Shaping and caring for these landscapes is an art form, and having the correct tools is essential. Niwaki’s tools exemplify the good design and quality construction that we look for as purveyors.
