Hidamari Pale Gray Coaster Kit

Pale Gray Cosmo Hidamari Sashiko Pair Coaster Kit Sashiko, minus the excuses. Everything you need is in the envelope. The pattern is pre-printed on the cloth. The thread is included. So is the sashiko needle, the sewing needle, and even a threader. You open it, you thread up, you start stitching. Total setup time: about ninety seconds. Makes two finished coasters, roughly 4" square. The designs are hitomezashi — "one stitch" sashiko, worked in simple running stitch rows going horizontally and then vertically. The pattern emerges from the intersections. It looks far more complicated than it is, which is honestly the whole appeal of hitomezashi. The printed pattern lines and the cutting guides wash out when you're done. No transferring, no marking, no chalk pencil. This is our top pick for a first sashiko project. Small enough to finish in a couple of evenings, useful at the end, and you'll walk away actually understanding how sashiko works. It's also a very good travel project and a genuinely nice handmade gift. Cosmo's Hidamari thread — the name means "sunny spot" — is soft, matte, and Japanese-made, with the gentle loft that makes sashiko stitches sit up on the fabric. Kit includes Pre-printed cotton cloth for 2 coasters, approx. 3.9" x 3.9" finished Hidamari sashiko thread Tailoring thread Cotton tape for edging Sashiko needle and sewing needle Needle threader Illustrated instructions in Japanese, with a full Hidamari thread color sample book included Made in Japan A note on the instructions: they're in Japanese, but they're almost entirely diagrams. If you want the words, point the Google Translate app's camera at the page and it reads in English in real time. Want more sashiko? We stock Hidamari thread in the full color range so you can restitch these designs in any palette you like.
