The Image: Heresy was inspired by a 19th-century story involving two Belgian brothers and their sculptures of Lucifer. Sculptor Joseph Geefs was commissioned to create a figure of Lucifer, titled The Angel of Evil, for the pulpit of St. Paul’s Cathedral in Liège, Belgium. The church ultimately rejected the sculpture, reportedly because they felt its beauty and sensuality could distract young churchgoers. Joseph’s brother, Guillaume Geefs, was then commissioned to create a replacement. His sculpture, The Genius of Evil, which some have argued is even more beautiful and sensual than the first, remains in the cathedral today. The Fragrance: The main notes in Heresy are church incense, wooden pews, and impure thoughts. It also includes notes of rosewood, tonka, musk, stone, muguet, patchouli, sandalwood, geranium, spice, burning paper, bergamot, jasmine, leather, benzoin, lavender, cypress, cardamom, myrtle, vetiver, tobacco, hay, lilac, smoke, labdanum, resin, rose, cedar, green apple, gin, myrrh, star anise, and oak moss.
