She is the wife and sister of Zeus, the king of the gods. Hera is commonly associated with marriage, women, childbirth, and family. As a goddess, she is often depicted as majestic and solemn, frequently wearing a crown or seated on a throne. Hera's personality in myth is complex. She is revered as a protector of marriage and is often sought by women for aid in childbirth and for avenging wrongs against women. However, she is also known for her jealousy and vengeful nature, particularly towards Zeus's numerous lovers and their offspring, including well-known figures like Hercules. Hera plays a significant role in many Greek myths and epic narratives, including the Iliad, where she is a principal deity influencing the events of the Trojan War, often opposing Zeus's intentions. She was worshipped throughout the Greek world, and her cult was particularly prominent in Argos and Samos.
