The half-moon design lets you cook while still leaving part of the fire pit open to add firewood or enjoy the flames. It's a more versatile setup for both grilling and relaxing around the fire. Can I remove the grate while the fire is burning? Yes. The grate is designed for easy one-motion removal, making it simple to access the fire when needed. Use appropriate heat-resistant gloves and tools whenever handling hot cooking equipment. What fire pits does it fit? The grate is custom-made to fit Evergreen Patio Fire Pits in 24", 30", 36", 37", 41", 42", and 48" sizes. Can I cook directly on the steel grate? Yes. Like any steel cooking surface, we recommend cleaning and seasoning the grate before its first use and maintaining it after cooking to help preserve its finish and performance. Apply a thin coat of high-smoke-point cooking oil (such as canola, grapeseed, or avocado oil) to all surfaces. Place the grate over a hot fire for 20–30 minutes to help build a natural protective seasoning. Keep It Seasoned! To maintain a naturally non-stick cooking surface and help protect the steel : - Apply a light coat of cooking oil after cleaning and while the grate is still warm. - Regular seasoning will improve cooking performance and extend the life of the grate. Cleaning : - After each use, allow the grate to cool slightly, then clean with a grill brush or scraper. - For heavier buildup, wash with warm water and a soft brush or non-abrasive scrub pad. - Dry the grate completely after washing to prevent unnecessary rust. Storage : When not in use, store the grill grate indoors or in a dry location. If left outdoors, keep it covered whenever possible to minimize moisture exposure. Natural Steel Finish : Your grill grate is made from raw steel and may naturally develop surface rust if exposed to moisture. This is normal and does not affect its performance. If surface rust appears : - Brush or scrub the affected area until clean. - Wash and dry the grate thoroughly. - Reapply a thin coat of cooking oil. - Heat the grate over a fire to restore the seasoning. Cooking Tips : - Always preheat the grate before cooking. - Lightly oil your food or the cooking surface to help prevent sticking. - Avoid leaving food residue on the grate between uses. *Please Note* Because each grill grate is handcrafted from raw steel, slight variations in color and finish are normal. With proper seasoning and routine maintenance, your grill grate will continue to develop a durable cooking surface and provide years of dependable use. Warping can occur if used over very high heat (yellow flame or hotter).
